Unexpectedly continuing my TARDIS trip down memory lane, here’s a quick glimpse of why Donna – also returning for the specials, which begin in about two hours (!) – is such a beloved companion to the Doctor. She’s so much fun!

The specials aren’t the first time that these two reunite. It already happened in the episode below. Here, the comedic chemistry between Catherine Tate and David Tennant results in a fabulous scene where they spot each other through different windows – after several near misses.

(Also, they’re such a good acting team that they did Much Ado About Nothing together! Go, Shakespeare!)

For budding writers, RTD gives a great lesson in:

  1. How to do an effective build-up so that audiences get the emotional pay-off.
  2. Characterisation – not just Donna and the Doctor but, as Luke says, Wilf really does feel like everyone’s grandpa. RIP Bernard Cribbins โค
