Speaking of Ko-fi in particular…

To NSFW or not NFSW?

When visiting my Ko-fi page, you will also be faced with a NSFW (not safe for work) warning, asking you to confirm that you’re at least 18 years old.

Now, I don’t currently write extreme/graphic/explicit content.

I never plan to – BUT Ko-fi’s own guidelines on this are extensive.

Ko-fi asks its users to apply the NSFW tag if any part of our page contains or links to (my emphasis) content that could be considered offensive or mature.

If you want the details, here’s a long list on the Ko-fi website. Basically, a green tick = your page needs a NSFW tag.

So, why do I need a green tick? Well:

  • On this website, I’ve definitely written about stories that qualify for those green ticks – and therefore for the NSFW tag.
  • Also on this website, I currently have no control over adverts that aren’t my own – and these may be intended for older audiences (e.g. ‘hot singles in your area’).
  • On external websites, my posts are often published alongside other writers’ works – and these may be (and have been) maturer than mine.
  • My current novel’s youngest audience age range is YA – and YA can be surprisingly mature (e.g. The Hunger Games, where 12-year-olds are murdered). My novel series may also cross over into NA (New Adult) territory.
  • My first readership includes a range of experiences. Some are minors, some are wholesome adults, some have trauma… I was always more sensitive, too, compared with other people my age.

It’s just nice to be warned, right? Let me know if you have any questions…

…and, of course, if you can’t support me right now, you don’t have to. No worries.

Thank you, simply, for reading my work 🙂
